What is Adolescent Care

Adolescence is a transition period between childhood and adulthood. During this period, youth experience changes, including puberty, relationships, physical maturity, romance, and sexuality, developing cognitive processes, emotions, and growing independence from their parents.

The health concerns of adolescents differ from those of children and adults. Healthcare needs of this age group require addressing identified health concerns as well as navigating complex interactions between developmental changes, healthcare needs, treatment effectiveness, health education, and health promotion.

As adolescents begin to take responsibility for their health, education, and promotion of preventive healthcare are critical to their physical, mental, and emotional development.
